3rd Euro-Med Meeting of the Families of the Disappeared
Governments Should Apologize for Enforced Disappearances
Experts from Europe and the Mediterranean and rights organizations met with families of disappeared people in Istanbul last weekend. The participants called for transparency, clarification and reparation regarding enforced disappearances, claiming individuals and governments to be held responsible.

Pro-Kurdish DTP Closed down by Constitutional Court
The Constitutional Court ruled for the closure of pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party and imposed a political ban on 37 of its members. Co-chairs Türk and Tuğluk are deposed from their duties as MPs. Human Rights organizations criticized the decision.

Public Servants on Strike for the Right to Strike
The strike of public workers was supported by trade associations, workers' unions and left-wing organizations. In Istanbul, KESK president Evren criticised the government for avoiding the formation of a collective labour agreement board. In Ankara, the police employed force against the striking workers.

Öcalan's Isolation on The Imrali Island Ends
After rights organizations had criticized the conditions of Öcalan's isolated imprisonment, 5 convicts have been transferred to İmralı Island where the PKK leader is imprisoned since 1999. He will be allowed to see them 10 hours a week.

Female Activist Claims Harassment by the Police
ESP member Keskin filed a criminal complaint against police officers of the Esenler Üçyüzlü Police Station, claiming that she became a victim of harassment, torture and insult. Keskin had been arrested while distributing a handout.

Thousands of colourful children books from Sweden are dispersed among Turkish schools. At the first stage of the project, the Turkish translations of 10 books have been published. They will be distributed to schools in Ankara, Istanbul, Bursa, Çanakkale, Mardin, Şanlıurfa and Trabzon.
