Detention Asked for Police in Tahir Elçi Prosecution

The petition submitted to Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecution Office within the scope of prosecution of murdering of Diyarbakır Bar President Tahir Elçi asked the police being present at the scene of incident and opened fire to be detained, and their testimonies to be taken as suspect.

Following demands included in the petition submitted to the prosecution two days ago:

Roster of police tasked

- Task list and assignment letters of police officers being present at the scene or bursting on the scene upon radio announcement must be included in the file.

- Not all statement of every police officers who were at Yenikapı Street were included in the prosecution file given to Elçi’s attorneys. All documents, written, visual and voice recordings must be delivered to us as in their present condition.

“Prosecutor should conduct the prosecution”

-  All police officers tasked at Yenikapı Street should be taken into custody based on the footage of the scene from the moment Tahir Elçi was taped as standing to the moment he was taped lying on the floor. Deputy complainants should be present during their testimonies.

-  All prosecution processes should be conducted by public prosecutor.

Examination demand for all weapons

-  All of the weapons, be recorded or not in the inventory, of the security forces tasked at the scene must be sent to Gendarmerie Criminal Head of Department for ballistic examination.

-  All the visual records of MOBESE and security cameras of workplaces must be included in the file.

-  All radio and announcement records before, during and after the press release at Yenikapı Street must be included in the file.

The petition also included a demand for the identification of the weapon type by examining enter and exit points bullet created in Elçi’s skull based on the autopsy report. (AS/TK)
