Anti-Racist Platform Warns Against Lifting Parliamentary Immunity

Say Stop to Racism and Nationalism (DurDe) Platform has organized a press meeting as to Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Garo Paylan being subjected to racist attacks.
The DurDe also demanded the process concerning lifting parliamentary immunities be ended and that the process be handled in peaceful means by democratic will of all MPs.
As to the assault against Paylan and other HDP MPs, “if racist, discriminatory lynch attempts can take place in parliament, it is inevitable that those on the streets inspired by those will take it upon themselves”, warned the platform.
“War policies or dialogue?”
Following phrases came to the fore in the statement read by Yıldız Önen:
“The decision parliament will take concerning the parliamentary immunities will determine whether war policies will last deepening or peaceful methods such as negotiation-dialogue will come in in the upcoming period.
“By lifting the parliamentary immunities of the HDP MPs, HDP leadership is planned to be politically discharged.
“Willing to lift the immunities is a vendetta attempt to say the least”.
“Kurdish question cannot be reduced to lifting immunities of the Kurdish MPs”
“Kurdish people don’t give up to fight despite discharging of their political representatives. Kurdish question cannot be reduced to solving it by lifting parliamentary immunities of the Kurdish MPs.
“Since we want the tension climbing for months with the war environment deepening to come to an end, demanded the process concerning lifting parliamentary immunities be lifted and that the process be handled in peaceful means by democratic will of all MPs”.
“Those on the streets inspired by incidents in parliament will take it upon themselves”
“The incidents that took place during the discussion of legislations regarding the immunities in the parliament were utterly disgraceful. A crowded group of MPs attempted lynching against the Kurdish and Armenian MPs.
“There are footage of lynching attempt in the parliament. A HDP woman member was subjected to lynch attempt. Furthermore, HDP MP and an activist in struggle for democracy and also a representative of Armenian society, Garo Paylan was subjected to lynch attempt by AKP MPs.
“If racist, discriminatory lynch attempts can take place in parliament which professes to be heart of parliamentary democracy, it is inevitable that those on the streets inspired by those will take it upon themselves”. (BK/TK)
