Turkey’s Telecommunication Authority (TİB) blocked gay.com, a popular LGBTI social networking website.
The ban was issued on October 17 based on an “administration measure”.
bianet interviewed telecommunications lawyer Serhat Koç who said that the measure could have been taken according to Law No 5651 on the prevention of catalogue crimes including child abuse, obscenity and prostitution.
While the website has the right to appeal to the ruling within 30 days, it also has the option to launch an administrative case against TIB in case of no response within another period of 30 days. (EA/BM)
