Presidency Sent Selahattin Demirtaş an Email, Urging Him to Stay Home, Says His Wife

The Digital Transformation Office of the Presidency has sent emails to the citizens, informing them that as part of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) measures, they can reach public services without leaving their homes.

This email has also been sent to the email address of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) imprisoned former Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who has been behind bars in Edirne Prison since November 4, 2016.

Başak Demirtaş, his wife, has shared the email on her Twitter account. Mentioning the account of the Presidency, Başak Demirtaş has said, "In your email to Selahattin, you say, 'Do not leave home if you have a serious chronic disease.' But, it is exactly what we are talking about."

In the email sent to Selahattin Demirtaş, it is said:

"Dear Selahattin Demirtaş,

"All public institutions and organizations of our country are struggling against the novel type of coronavirus, setting an example to the world. A raised awareness of our citizens about this issue will lead to a more effective struggle. It is important to minimize social integration as much as possible to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

"Accordingly, our citizens (especially the ones at a higher risk such as the citizens aged 65 and older, pregnant and nursing women and people with serious chronic diseases) can access most of the public services online without leaving their homes so that they can protect both themselves and the ones around them. Let's not forget...

"Coronavirus is not stronger than the measures that we will take."

Demirtaş referred to hospital in December 2019

Having lost his consciousness for some time in Edirne Prison on November 26, 2019 and referred to hospital on December 2, Selahattin Demirtaş was sent back to his ward after medical examinations.

Aygül Demirtaş, the attorney and sister of Selahattin Demirtaş, announced the latest news about his condition on Twitter and said,

"Our client and my elder brother Selahattin Demirtaş has been referred to hospital this evening. He has undergone all the necessary medical examinations and has been brought back to prison. No life threatening condition has been detected as of now.

"We expect that his condition will be diagnosed after some different tests and examinations are done. He is in good health now and in very good spirits." (EKN/SD)
