‘Permanent Witness’ Used by Police Officers to Threaten Another Officer

Prisoner İ.Ö., who says that "he has been working as an informant for the police and the state since he was a child", shot the son of a police officer who was called a "traitor" by the police officers giving orders to him.

The records of the Security Directorate and the case file show that İ.Ö. himself said that he injured the son of a police officer with a gun.

But, why did İ.Ö. confess to a crime that would lead him to be put on trial?

Because the police officers whom he said he was receiving orders from are now defendants of lawsuits filed on charges related with the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Structure (PDY), which is held accountable for the failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016.

İ.Ö. is now testifying at the lawsuits filed against the officers.

'Memati' code-named informant

In his testimony, İ.Ö. also stated that he had a "Memati" code-named assistant intelligence officer. In response to this information, the Security Directorate requested an inquiry into whether the Intelligence Unit or Intelligence Department had such code-named intelligence officer.

'An acquainted judge was arranged'

According to the testimony of İ.Ö., the incident of injury with a gun was recounted in following words:

"In September 2007, Ali İhsan Kaya from the Intelligence Unit and three intelligence officers said that another police officer was a 'traitor' and was harming the state and gave the instruction to shoot his son as an intimidation. While the targeted person was underway in his vehicle on September 5, 2007, İ.Ö. approached and shot him in his shoulder. He did not aim for his head, because it was done as a warning, thereby signalling that they could have killed him in such a crowded place if they had wanted it."

İ.Ö. said that Ali İhsan Kaya kissed him on his forehead after this incident and told him that they resolved the issue and it was very successful.

A lawsuit was filed against İ.Ö. at the Sarıyer 3rd Penal Court of First Instance in İstanbul in relation with this attack.

Regarding the lawsuit, İ.Ö. stated that "Ali İhsan Kaya came to him in prison in an off the record way, told him not to plead guilty as they would try to arrange an acquainted judge and he would receive a minor sentence."

İ.Ö. also recounted that "he testified at court as instructed by Kaya, the person that he shot did not file a criminal complaint against him and said that he was shot because he was mistaken for somebody else and even though he shot the person above the waist, the acquainted judge ensured that he receive a minor sentence."
