Military Warning Was a Press Release

Kemal Vuraldogan had sued for a symbolic 1 YTL compensation after the General Staff had published a warning on its Internet website during the night of 27 April. The publication was widely seen as containing the threat of a military coup and an attempt to interfere in politics.

An administrative court in Ankara, however, has decided that the publication was a "press release for administrative purposes" and has referred the complaint to the Ministry of Defense as it is then the first instance of complaint. (TK/AG)
