Have You Heard Initiative: We Won't Stay Silent Against Pressure on Journalists

The Have You Heard Initiative has launched a campaign against increasing pressure on journalists.

"The ruling power has created a media order that only applauds it and slanders those it targets. Journalists who intend to bring the truth to the people have been under great pressure for years," it said in a written statement.

"The police knock on a journalist's door in the morning because of writing a report and judges issue arrest warrants. While pro-media campaigns full of slander are continuing, journalists imprisoned between four walls cannot have the right to reply.

"Barış Pehlivan, Barış Pehlivan, Barış Terkoğlu, Hülya Kılınç, Murat Ağırel, Aydın Keser and Ferhat Çelik, who have been remanded in custody on the ground of a report on the MİT [National Intelligence Agency] have been confined at Silivri Prison for 98 days. For the last part, Müyesser Yıldız and İsmail Dükel were detained. Journalists are tried to be silenced with the methods of the sham trials in the past. We won't stay silent against these attacks on freedom of the press, expression and thought."
