Criminal Complaint Against Historian Ayşe Gür over ‘Defaming Turkishness”

A criminal complaint has been filed against historian writer Ayşe Hür because of her tweet on charges of “Qualified insult”, “Inciting people to grudge and hostility and overtly defaming them”, “Defaming the Turkish nation”.

The person who filed the complaint is Mert Eryılmaz from the İstanbul Bar Association.

Hür posted the following tweet yesterday:

“What kind of a loser society is this that it has been saying for over 94 years that ‘how we had defeated you’ to the countries, which it was friend with for 93 years”.

Hür facing reactions of the social media users had said, “The date of liberation from military invasion is not August 30 1922 but October6 1923”.

Eryılmaz in his petition claimed that Hür with her tweet threatened the public order. (EA/TK)
