9,800 People Quarantined in Turkey, Says Interior Minister Soylu

Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu has announced that 9,800 people have been quarantined in Turkey due to novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Soylu has indicated that those who have recently returned from Umrah in Saudi Arabia to Turkey are also among the quarantined.

Addressing the allegations that a curfew will be declared as part of Covid-19 measures, Soylu has said, "A considerable part of them originates from the US and Germany", arguing that they are members or sympathizers of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which is held responsible for the attempted coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016.

Indicating that such allegations are made by those from the US and Germany who think "how Turkey manages this well, how the public is so calm, commonsensical and obeys the rules, how they can be better than the US and Germany", Soylu has called on citizens "to not tolerate the ones who try to manipulate and cause indignation on social media."

Ministry: 64 people detained

On the other side, the Ministry of Interior has released a statement about the people detained over their social media posts about coronavirus.

The Ministry has announced that "of 242 people who allegedly shared provocative coronavirus posts on social media since March 11, 64 have been taken into custody." (EKN/SD)
