Initial reactions from the AKP and President Erdoğan
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan remarked that the decision will seriously impact the Germany-Turkey relations. "We will discuss what steps we will take after our ambassador returns", saying Erdoğan concluded that they will make the final decision after assessing the texts.
Vice Prime Minister, Numan Kurtulmuş had made the following remarks on Twitter following the approval of the bill:
“German Federal Assembly’s acknowledging some ‘twisted and baseless’ allegations as ‘genocide’ is a historical mistake.
“This decision is null and void for Turkey.
“This is not an issue to be decided by politicians or parliaments but scientists and historians. We as Turkey will indeed give the required response”.
