Staging protest on Ankara Yüksel Street demanding her job back from the university from which she was suspended, academic Nuriye Gülmen has been selected as one of the eight leading women of 2016 by CNN.
Prepared by Frida Ghitis, the list stated that the government launched heavy crackdowns following July 15 coup attempt and the authorities fired tens of thousands viewed as a threat.
It was expressed that refusing the crackdown, Gülmen continued her demonstration on Yüksel Street in front of Human Rights Monument in Ankara demanding her job back despite being arrested over 30 times.
About Gülmen and her protest
Nuriye Gülmen was suspended from her duty at Konya Selçuk University on the ground of “FETÖ-PDY (Fethullahist Terror Organization-Parallel State Structure” investigation.
Stating “I have been unlawfully and arbitrarily suspended from my duty”, Gülmen listed her demands:
- End State of Emergency.
- Return discharged and suspended revolutionary democrat civil servants to their duties.
- Put an end to arbitrary and unlawful discharges.
- Science can’t be done without job security. We want job security for all educational and science workers. (BK/TK)
