According to data based on reports in local and national newspapers and news agencies, a compilation made by bianet revealed that male perpetrators left 25 women and 2 men dead, 4 raped/attempted to rape, 41 battered and 9 harassed in December 2013.
While 16 percent of slain women previously filed a complaint, 20 percent were killed for seeking divorce.
While 71 percent of rape attempts took place in apartments, 66 percent took place on the street.
Murder
In December, men killed 25 women and 2 men in 18 cities across Turkey.

Following the incidents, 4 men surrendered and 5 committed suicide.
56 percent of women were slain by either their husbands or ex-husbands.
The murder perpetrators in December included husband (7), divorce-seeking husband (5), ex-husband (2), lover (3), ex-lover (2), coworker (2), son (2), son-in-law (1) and father (1).
56 percent of murders were committed with guns in December. Strangling cases, on the other hand, took a remarkable hike.
Murder methods in December included guns (8 with rifles and 6 with pistols), knife (5), strangling (3), torture (1), axe (1) and assault (1).
The murderers were aged between 24 to 63 years old; while female victims' ages differed from 15 to 77 in December 2013.
Most murder cases were reported in Antalya.
All murder cases were reported in the following cities: Adana, Antalya (5), Antep, Bursa, Çorum (2), Edirne, Erzurum, Isparta, İstanbul (3), İzmir, Kastamonu, Kırşehir, Konya, Mersin, Rize, Sakarya, Uşak and Yalova.
Rape
In December, men raped/attempted to rape 7 women in 6 cities across Turkey.
71 percent of rape/rape attempts took place in apartments, 66 percent took place on the street.
Rape venues in December were listed on the street (1), apartment (5) and school (1).
Rapist in December were identied as friend (2), ex-neighbor (1), neighbor (1), ex-husband (1), lover (1) and stranger (1).
The rape perpetrators were aged between 17 and 32; while rape victims were aged between 15 ad 23.
Rape cases have been reported from the following cities: Adana, Antalya, Düzce, Osmaniye, Uşak and Zonguldak (2).
Battery-Assault
In December, men battered 41 women in 16 cities across Turkey.
Police released a husband who assaulted his wife for four times over the same month.
Following the incidents, 5 women were intensively hospitalized, 2 ordered for protection and 1 put under women’s shelter. 4 women were robbed after being assaulted.
Violence perpetrators in December included husband (17 and 41 percent of all cases), male relatives including father, son, brother, son-in-law (8), stranger (7), lover (1), ex-lover (1), ex-husband (1), friend (1) and student families (3).
While 36 women were assaulted in December, 3 suffered from knife/axe injuries and 2 were gunned.
While violence perpetrators were aged between 16 and 74, violence victims were aged between 15 and 60.
Most violence cases were reported in Kocaeli. All violence cases were reported in the following cities: Adana (4), Ankara (2), Aydın (2), Balıkesir (3), Çorum (2), İstanbul (6), Kastamonu, Kayseri (2), Kocaeli (9), Konya (2), Mersin, Sakarya, Samsun, Tekirdağ, Trabzon (3) and Uşak.
Harassment
In December, 9 harassment cases were reported in 6 different cities across Turkey.
While one woman filed for restraint order against one harasser, another filed complaint for several times.
The nature of harassment were listed as follows:on the street (6 and 66 percent of all cases), apartment (1), workplace (1) and by phone (2).
45 percent of harassers were acquaintances of their victims.
Harassers in December were identified as relative (1), co-worker (2), ex-lover (2) and strangers (5).
While harassment perpetrators were aged between 20 and 28, harassment victims were aged between 16 and 32.
Harassment cases in December were reported in the following cities:Adana (2), Alanya, Ankara, İstanbul (2), İzmir and Urfa (2).
Retaliation to male violence
In December, two retaliation to male violence cases were reported.
One woman killed her violent husband and committed suicide after the incident.
One man killed another man who allegedly raped his daughter and was released pending a trial.
Regional distribution
In December 2013, 82 cases of violence against women, murder, attempted murder, harassment, rape, injury and child abuse were reported across 31 provinces across Turkey.
Most violence cases were reported from the Marmara Region.
