Vice PM Bülent Arınç made a statement concerning President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s “negative opinion” on a monitoring committee to the resolution process and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan’s Newroz message.
Some of the highlights from Arınç’s statement are as follows:
Monitoring committee
“The Parliament passed a law last year regarding the ‘ending of terrorism’. Our government must respect this law. One of the steps to make concerning the resolution process is to form a monitoring committee. We have a roadmap,
President Erdoğan
“This country is ruled by the government, it is in charge.
“Our President’s words might lead to criticism, make him upset. Our President might be deformed by his words... When our President talks like that even to the point of criticizing the government might also deform our government. Since we love our President so much, we think that his words might deform him if not the government.”
Members of the monitoring committee
“As the government, we are determined about the monitoring committee. We believe that it will be useful. Such statement must not leave a doubt on that.
“Members of the monitoring committee are not new. They are from the Wise People Delegation. Our President like and appreciate these people.
“I believe that Vice PM Yalçın Akdoğan has a contribution in these names. We must believe in the news stories that come from our Vice PM and PM on the issue and disregard the others. The information will be given once the time comes.
Öcalan’s Newroz message
“This message is positive in every way. I see this message as an achievement of this government. We know that it is the achievement of our President.” (AS/BM)
