Köylü: I Am Capable of Requesting Media Ban

It turned out that the request of media on the investigation of four former deputies - Zafer Çağlayan, Muammer Güler, Egemen Bağış and Erdoğan Bayraktar - for corruption allegation was not made by the Parliament Chairman Cemil Çiçek but the parliamentary commission chairman and Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy Hakkı Köylü. 

Previously, it was announced that the ban request to Ankara 7^th Peace Court Judge Panel was made by Cemil Çiçek

As the news broke out, Çiçek released a statement saying that he didn’t make such a request. 

Köylü: We did the necessary thing 

The commission summoned the former Environment and Urbanism Minister and AKP Trabzon deputy Erdoğan Bayraktar as “suspect”. 

Following the session, Köylü made a press statement. 

“As the commission chairman, I was the one who requested for the media ban on the issue. And I am capable of doing that. We did the necessary thing. We were compelled to do so. Maybe we wouldn’t ask that if it didn’t come this far. The investigation has completely been exposed. Some commission members exposed everything about the statements, incoming documents and rulings. The health manner of this investigation is in danger and so is its future. Therefore, I had to ask for a media ban,” he said. 

Bayraktar: It would be better without the ban 

After spending 1.5 hours for his statement, Bayraktar responded press inquiries: “There is a media ban. It would be better without the ban.” 

The investigation commission resumed its session for a while after Bayraktar’s departure. (HK/BM)
