Pro-government Yeni Akit newspaper has claimed that ripped jeans are used as means of “disguise” and “communication” by “foreign intelligence units and their co-conspirators”.
The report by Selim Yazıcı alleged that the aforementioned figures contact with each other by means of rips in certain spots of the jeans of same serial number.
The report citing “intelligence sources” defended that this situation was detected by the intelligence units of Turkey from the beginning and said, “As long as the important connections between the foreign spies and their co-conspirators are detected, the traitors who think they do the tracking will be tracked”.
How many of the jeans are ripped in Turkey?
According to data that Mavi Jeans CEO Cüneyt Yavuz conveyed to Dünya Gazetesi (World Newspaper), approximately 23 million jeans are sold in Turkey.
Even though we couldn’t determine how many of them are ripped, the number of people who wear jeans has significantly increased in the last couple of years.
Considering the report of Yeni Akit citing intelligence sources is correct, it is yet unknown of how many of the people who wear ripped jeans are “spy”.
Why is it called “kot” in Turkey?
The reason for the trousers known as “blue jeans” or “denim jeans” being called “kot pantalon” is that the first manufacturer of them in Turkey is an entrepreneur named Muhteşem Kot (The Great Kot).
Muhteşem Kot saw blue jeans during his trip to Europe and learned that it was worn by cowboys and agricultural workers in the United States.
Thinking that it could be a comfortable and wear proof trouser that workers and villagers can wear, he started production of “blue jeans”. He named the product after his surname: Kot. Kot was registered as a brand in 1958.
