Administrative Board Chair Zekeriya Güzüpek and Kurdish section editor Mehmet Ali Ertaş of Dicle News Agency, which was closed through statutory decree noç 675, have been detained in a house raid.
"Police called to locate the address"
Informing bianet of the incident, Free Journalists Initiative Spokesperson Hakkı Boltan conveyed that the police called Gözüpek and asked for the address before the raid:
“Zekeriya Gözüpek told them that he would come if he needed to give a statement but police stated that they only called to locate the address. Despite this, the police raided the home of the two journalists at around 4 a.m. in Diyarbakır”
Boltan: Police raids have become a routine
Stating that they don’t know which properties were seized and the reson for the detention, Boltan said, “Zekeriya is one of the most active journalists in Diyarbakır. The police know him as well. His home was raided despite him telling that he could come to give a statement. These house raids have become a routine policy of suppression”.
Ertaş and Güzüpek will go to the police station to receive information. (EA/TK)
