Editor-in-Chief of Cumhuriyet daily's online website Oğuz Güven was taken into custody this morning (May 12).
Güven was taken to İstanbul Security Directorate on Vatan Street to give statement to the police, Cumhuriyet reported.
The reason for Güven being taken into custody is not known yet.
Oğuz Güven informed about his detention on his Twitter account at 7:15 a.m.
State-run Anadolu Agency has claimed that Güven was taken into custody due to a news report he had written with regards to Denizli Public Chief Officer Mustafa Alper's death in a traffic accident.

Aydın Engin and Hikmet Çetinkaya were released on November 4, 2016.rosecutor's office.
Murat Sabuncu, Hakan Kara, Musa Kart, Bülent Utku, Güray Öz, Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Önder Çelik, Turhan Günay and Kadri Gürsel were arrested on November 15, 2016.
Also an arrest warrant has been issued for journalist and President of the Execution Board Akın Atalay who were abroad at the time.
After returning to Turkey on November 11 Atalay was taken inco custody at the airport and was arrested on November 13.
Correspondent of Cumhuriyet daily, journalist Ahmet Şık was taken into custody on December 29, 2016 due to his certain postings on the social media and certain reports. He was sent to court for arrest on the same day.
İstanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace ordered Şık's arrest on ground of "propagandizing for Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Organization (FETÖ/PDY) and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)".
Cumhuriyet daily's executives and writers are being charged with "committing crimes -on behalf of PKK/KCK and FETÖ/PDY as non-members". (AS/DG)
