Journalist Can Dündar has taken over the duty of Editor-in-Chief to act in solidarity with Özgür Gündem daily in protest of the arrest of Prof. Dr. Şebnem Korur Fincancı, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) Turkey Representative and bianet freedom of expression rapporteur Erol Önderoğlu and journalist author Ahmet Nesin.
“The arrest yesterday is a message. We will do whatever is issued to us and will carry the struggle further”, said Dündar.
“We have to be in solidarity to the end. We congratulate them for this struggle and will continue to support them”.
“You get arrested if you side with truth”
Dündar as to Fincancı, Önderoğlu and Nesin arrested yesterday said, “This is a message. It is a message that if you side with truth, you get arrested. We’ve received the message and came to side with them”.
“We will do whatever is issued to us. If they tell us to not watch a channel, we will watch it. That is how we will protect our rights”.
“Arrest of Erol is message to the world”
Dündar saying as to arrest of Ahmet Nesin, “State is always repressing the people who think and write” spoke as follows about Korur Fincancı and Önderoğlu: “Şebnem is a person who fights for human rights. They wanted to deliver a message to the world by the arrest of Erol. That is why, we will stand by them”. (HK/TK)
