The man who attacked a nurse on a bus for wearing shorts during Eid has been re-arrested, but this time not for assault.
When he was brought to the prosecution office for the second time, Abdullah Çakıroğlu used his right to remain silent, the Doğan News Agency (DHA) reported.
A woman attorney attended the questioning of Çakıroğlu, who was referred to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty on charges of "inciting people to grudge and hostility" and "preventing the exercise of rights to belief, expression and opinion".
"During the Sacrifice Feast, my national and spiritual feelings were at their peak", said the aggressor in his testimony.
Claiming that the woman whom he attacked wasn't dressed "normally," Çakıroğlu said, "this provoked my spiritual feelings".
"Non-Muslims should not provoke us"
Alleging that he was hit by people on the day of the incident, Çakıroğlu said:
"Our constitution must derive its rights primarily from Islam. Even if someone says 'I am non-Muslim', that person should dress in a way that does not provoke us.".
What had happened?
Terzi was attacked by a man named Abdullah Çakıroğlu on a bus on the first day of Eid. After the attack was reported in the media, Çakıroğlu was detained on charge of "wounding".
In his first testimony, Çakıroğlu said: "The shorts she wore were not appropriate. That's why I got angry and made that move".
"I undergo psychological treatment. I involuntarily kicked in an instant", said the aggressor. In response to journalists' questions, he said: "Everything is under control...There is no problem...I was attacked by vandals. 20 leftist terrorists attacked me. Everything happened in accordance with Islamic law".
Çakıroğlu was then sent to the prosecutor's office on the charge of "wounding," and the prosecutor released him on the grounds that such a crime did not necessitate an arrest.
When his release sparked public reactions, the prosecution issued a detention warrant again. Çakıroğlu was detained on the charge of "inciting people to grudge and hostility". Çakıroğlu then was sent to the Criminal Judgeship of Peace on Duty for arrest and has been arrested. (EA/TK)
