Today (January 19) is the 11th anniversary of Former Agos Weekly Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink being killed.
Commemoration started at 3 p.m. in front of Agos building where Dink was shot to death in Şişli, İstanbul.
At the window of former Agos building, Bülent Aydın from the Hrant’s Friends said, “We’ve come once again to be the voice of the truth he put into words, and memorialize our friend”.
"We've come to share the goodness"
“Trial of our friend continues. Those who follow that trial and want to share the goodness that Hrant Dink represents are here. We are looking in the eyes of our friend again. We’ve come to share that goodness.
“We are having a cold but a sunny day. We are here with the agonizing coldness of that day but warmth of being together here. We didn’t forget. Hrant Dink is among us”.
Among the attendees are Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP Garo Paylan, Republican People’s Party (CHP) MPs Selina Doğan, Barış Yarkadaş, Sezgin Tanrıkulu and Ali Şeker, Chair of the Turkish Medical Association Raşit Tükel, Alper Taş from the Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP) Council of Chairs, artists Ferhat Tunç and Nur Sürer.
Anti-riot vehicles and riot squad forces are present along the street where the commemoration will take place.
The banner with Hrant Dink’s photo and Dink’s words “Water Finds Its Spring” prepared by Hrant’s Friends is hung on the building, and there is the “We are here ahparig*” banner under it.
Police search bags at the barricades set up at the entrance of the streets closed to traffic. Flowers were left in front of Agos’ former building on Halaskargazi Street where Dink was assassinated. (BK/TP/EA/TK)
