The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) has stated that in the State of Emergency (OHAL) declared following the coup attempt on July 15, 2,054 engineers and architects have been discharged in total so far in the 12 Statutory Decrees.
"The effort to disable social opposition"
TMMOB in its statement has pointed out that the discharges were undertaken by "no questions asked, and without any investigation".
"Tens of thousands of people have been discharged or suspended according to lists based upon denunciations and personal initiatives. There is almost no teachers and lecturers in schools and universities, engineers to conduct studies in Ministries or public officials to serve in municipalities.
"It is unacceptable to discharge people in non-compliance with fundamental legal norms and fundamental human rights without carrying out any investigations [...] and taking away their right to defence". (NV/DG)
