Minister of National Education İsmet Yılmaz has stated 33,065 National Education Ministry personnel have been expelled by Statutory Decrees from the ministry.
“We are not happy about expelling people but this is the only solution. If you do not leave them outside of public [service], you will face incidents like assassination of Russia’s Ambassador to Turkey or even worse ones. We expelled 33,065 people to not face such incidents again and to take necessary measures to fulfill our duties to our citizens”.
Noting that 43 of the expelled were returned to their duties, Yılmaz said they have legal grounds for the expulsions, yet, didn’t explain what those grounds are.
In total 87,346 people were expelled from public institutions and profession from July 20, 2016 through January 5, 2017 during the State of Emergency. The number of those who could return to their duties is 319. During the same period, 30,501 people were expelled and only 31 of them could return to their duties. (HK/TK)
