Prof. İştar Gözaydın has been taken into custody.
Declaring her being taken into custody on Twitter, Gözaydın’s spouse İskender Savaşır stated that Gözaydın was taken from her home at around 6 a.m.
As Head of Department of Sociology at Gediz University, Gözaydın was relieved of her duty on July 21 because of her posts against capital punishment and violence.
Gediz University was closed by a Statutory Decree issued on July 22.

State-run Anadolu Agency declared that simultaneous operations have been launched into some addresses in provinces of İzmir, İstanbul, Manisa and Adana as part of investigation launched by İzmir Chief Public Prosecutior’s Office and Organized Crime Bureau Prosecutor’s Office into “Fethullahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Structure (FETÖ/PDY)”.
14 of 33 Gediz University staff for whom detention warrants were issued were detained during the operations.
There are two professors among the detained staff, Doğan News Agency reported.
Name list hasn’t been included on the news.

A professor of law and politics, she is also a founder of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly, a human rights organization in Turkey.
