The negotiations meeting in the Parliamentary Constitutional Commission with regards to the immunities could not be completed due to verbal and physical attacks.
In meeting launched with disputes in the morning (April 28), journalists and MP advisors had been expelled.
After the break at 5 p.m, the second session has begun with physical violence.
It has been reported that lack of space was the reason for the outbreak of the fight. The MPs have pounded each other up.
The commission meeting has been postponed to May 2, Monday, 3 p.m.
AKP’s change proposal
Justice and Development Party (AKP) Government in its change proposal submitted on April 12, 2016 in order to lift immunities, has noted that “Article 83(2) first sentence could not apply”.
Article 83(2) requires: “A member of Parliament claimed to have committed a crime before and after the elections can not be detained, interrogated, arrested or tried without decision of the Parliament”.
367 votes are needed for the proposal to get through. In case the proposal gets less than 367 votes, there will be a referendum.
129 MPs have 567 immunity files
According to the report of state-run Anadolu News Agency, in case the law enters into force, the immunity of 129 MPs will be lifted.
The 129 MPs who have 567 immunity case files are 25% from AKP, 51% from CHP (Republican People’s Party, 45% from HDP (Peoples Democratic Party) and Ankara Independent MP Aylin Nazlıkaya.(ÇT/DG)
