Acorrding to data of Human Rights Foundation of Turkey (TİHV) Documentation Center, over 338 civilians killed in the period between August 16, 2015 when the curfew was first declared and April 20, 2016.
Of those killed, 78 were children and 30 were above 60 years old.
At least 65 indefinite and day long curfew was imposed in 22 districts, in especially the provinces of Diyarbakır (35), Şırnak (10), Mardin (11), and Hakkari (5), Muş (1), Elazığ (1), and Batman (2).
147 of the 200 civilians who died at home are from Cizre
Here are the information in the statement:
76 civilians whose cause of death could be accessed are predicted to die due to being deprived of right to medication.
Among at least the 200 civilians; 182 are thought to die because of the shooting and shells fired by tanks, 18 of them died because of the effect that curfew and conflict environment created.
147 of the 200 civilians who died at home/indoors were from Cizre.
At least 1,642,000 people have been exposed to right violations
TİHV in its statement expressed that at least 1,642,000 people known to be living in curfew-imposed districts have been exposed to violation of most basic life and health rights.
Effective, independent and unbiased investigation
TİHV demanded effective, independent, and unbiased investigation in its statement:
“It is state’s liability to illuminate all right violations by effective, independent, and unbiased investigations.”
Land mines possibility
TİHV drew attention to conflict wastes and mines:
“A worrying aspect of the process with respect to especially children is the possibility that there are conflict wastes and land mines in the districts.
“Two children aged 4 and 6 in Cizre where operations ended and curfews started to be imposed for all day lost their lives on March 31, and a 4-year-old child in İdil on April 13 lost his/her life due to the explosion of the items they played which they found on street”.
Burial without identification in Cizre and İdil
According to the TİHV data, at least 78 bodies in Cizre, and 15 bodies in İdil were buried without identification.
Besides, stillbirth took place due to a woman being shot in her belly in Silopi district of Şırnak.
At least 11 civilians have lost their lives because of the fire opened by security forces or teargas used during curfew or mass protests staged outside the areas of operation. (AS/TK)
