On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Baran Tursun Foundation released a Mother’s Day.
“We are celebrating the Mother’s Day of those who didn’t lose their sons. For us, for those who lost their sons to the police violence neither have a Mother’s Day nor a Father’s Day, nor Valentine’s Day,” the message said.
The statement continued that the police killing of 8 people during the Gezi Resistance would underestimate the real killing power of the police.
Some of the highlights from the statement are as follows:
* Following an amendment in Turkey’s Police Duty and Authority Law (PVSK) in 2007, we could detect at least 155 individuals who were killed by the police until then.
* Among these, at least 27 were killed due to the excessive use of police authority in police stations.
* The lethal authority of police force is not limited to the Gezi Protests. This perception is making our work less efficient and challenging. Limiting the lethal power of police to the Gezi Protests is undermining its real power. (EKN/BM)
