THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSE ANNOUNCED
"2221 ‘Suicides’ of Soldiers in 22 Years”
National Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz announced that a total of 2221 soldiers “died of suicide” throughout the past 22 years.
National Defense Minister İsmet Yılmaz answered the parliamentary questions submitted by Peace and Democracy Party Van Deputy Özdal Üçer ve Bitlis Deputy Hüsamettin Zenderlioğlu.
According to the news of Ayşe Sayın from Cumhuriyet newspaper, 3183 soldiers and Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) personnel died of suicide or various accidents since 1990.
"2221 died of suicide, 1602 people died as a result of weapon or military vehicle accidents, feeling unfit to military service, snakebite, stroke of lightning, electric shock or falling throughout the past 22 years," announced İsmet Yılmaz (EKN)
