In 17th April friday the late afternoon, Turkey's Telecommunication Authority (TİB) placed URL shortening service under administrative precaution. When users clicked URL addresses shortened using Bitly, they saw the message:
"Due to technical examination and legal evaluation as per law no. 5651, this internet site (bit.ly) is placed under administrative precaution by the Telecommunication Authority based on the Telecommunication Authority’s decision dated 17/04/2015 number 490.05.01.2015.-1188889."
According to Hurriyet newspaper’s website, TİB authorities later enabled access to the site again and explained the site had been banned due to a technical error.
1st Peace Court Judge Bekir Altun had recently placed a ban on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook on the justification that footage of Prosecutor Mehmet Selim Kiraz being taken hostage in Çağlayan Courthouse were circulating. (HK/PU)
