The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has announced that legal action has been initiated against 6,792 members, 5,342 of them laid off in the wake of the July 15 coup attempt.
The statement issued by YÖK expressed that the State of Emergency (OHAL) has been formed within body of the YÖK Presidency by instruction of the Prime Ministry subsequent to the OHAL declared following the coup attempt.
“By means of this commission, necessary pieces of information have been provided as to the discharges and investigations, and these developments are being closely monitored. It will never be allowed for members of the FETÖ/PDY (Fethullahist Terror Organization/Parallel State Structure) to occupy position in higher education institutions,” read the statement.
The total number of academic members at universities in 2016 is 146,124.
