NTV Wins against RTÜK
NTV won a case against RTÜK regarding a warning fine based on a statement of an executive in Northern Cyprus. The State Council referred to press freedom in its decision. Another fine against NTV was temporarily stalled by an administrative court.

RTÜK: "Magnificent Century" Series Clashes with "Moral Values"
RTÜK issued a warning to Show TV on the grounds of the series "Magnificent Century". The series about the life of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent went on air on 6 January. It is alleged to be "contrary to the national and moral values of the society", RTÜK said.

After a statement of Deputy PM Arınç against the series "Magnificent Century", members of the Felicity Party protested in front of the Show TV building. MHP members demanded to cancel the series. The history advisor and scriptwriter do not agree with the reactions.

RTÜK issued a reprimand to NTV for restaurant owner Güler's statement in a food program. He said, "The wines made mainly from the Nebiole grape variety and from our Boğazkarası grapes are of good quality in my opinion". RTÜK member Alp opposed the vote.

By majority vote, RTÜK imposed a heavy monetary fine to the news channel CNN Türk on the grounds of a statement made by Kurdish politician Özçelik in the program "What's going on". He had described the militant PKK as a "political movement".

Kanal D has to present a convincing defence to RTÜK in order to avoid a heavy monetary fine. The television channel might be punished by the council for broadcasting the reactions of the families of soldiers who were killed in the Gediktepe raid.

The Turkish news channel CNN Türk was punished by RTÜK for criticism on President Gül voiced by the Secretary General of the Labour Party. The International Press Institute disapproved the decision and assessed it as an intended deterrence from freedom of expression.

Turkey Convicted for Revoking Licence of Nur Radio
The European Court of Human Rights found Turkey guilty of a violation of freedom of expression because of revoking the publishing licence of Nur Radio TV. RTÜK had annulled the license due to broadcasts supposedly opposing secularism and a pirate program.

Controversial News Principles for Terror Coverage
A meeting of the Ministry of the Interior, the Radio and TV Supreme Council and TV officials yielded new principles for news about armed conflicts. It was announced to refrain from broadcasts that justify or encourage terror. The Contemporary Journalists Association criticized the principles.

RTÜK Punished Thoughts on "Genocide" Voiced by Turkish Writer
The Radio and TV Supreme Council suspended the broadcast of a program on Haber Türk because writer Nişanyan thoughts on the "Armenian Genocide" supposedly exceeded the limits of criticism. Also the series "Lady's farm" was found "against the Turkish family structure".

According to a drafted amendment of the Law on Radio and Television Broadcasting Institutions and Publishing Rights, the limit of foreign investment shall increase to 50 percent and RTÜK shall take over supervision and the ascertaining of the number of viewers.

In a programm on TV8 MP Genç accused Prime Minister Erdoğan and his Deputy Çiçek of corruption. The Radio and Television Supreme Council subjected the television channel to a warning penalty. The decision caused controversy within the Supreme Council.
