Stalemate Between Unions and Governor as May Day Nears
Throughout the week, the talks between Turkey’s major workers unions and Governor of Istanbul have resulted in a stalemate over the celebration venue for this year’s May Day celebrations. Governor Mutlu recommended Yenikapı Square for May Day, while DISK President Kani Beko stated that they are insistent about celebrating at Taksim.

Early this morning, police intervened the 60-day long worker resistance at Greif Company in Istanbul’s Hadımköy district. While police detained several people including two journalists, workers are struggling to have a collective labor agreement.

Police Shoots 10 y.o. Boy With Tear Gas Canister
Last night, police hit M.E (10) in the head with a tear gas canister in Silvan district of Diyarbakır (a southeastern city of Turkey). While M.E. was admitted to Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital in critical condition, doctors said his health improved throughout the day.

11 Detained at METU Solidarity Protest in Istanbul

Police Attacks “Justice” Demonstration
Police broke up protestors in Istanbul’s Okmeydani district who gathered to demand justice for B.E. (14), a Gezi Resistance demonstrator in coma for 86 days. While 10 demonstrators and 1 policeman were injured, 5 were detained including 3 children. Among injured protestors included Mete Diş, a cancer patient.

Police Authorities Decline to Disclose Gas Bomber Policemen
An administrative investigation has been launched on May Day police violence with the testimony of Serdal Gül - a demonstrator with head injury. Police authorities, however, didn’t disclose the names of police officers in the investigation file.

600 policemen have attacked 6 activists who walked from the southern province to Istanbul in order to protest police violence and demand for justice, Ahmet Saymadi said. According to BDP deputy Ertuğrul Kürkçü, police sprayed pepper gas from close distance, leaving him injured.

Turkey Convicted of Pepper Gas Use, Police Violence
The European Court of Human Rights reached a verdict on the case of Nergiz Izci, a peaceful March 8 demonstrator who was subjected to police beatings and pepper gas. Turkey was ordered to pay 20,000 euros to Izci.
