By majority vote, RTÜK imposed a heavy monetary fine to the news channel CNN Türk on the grounds of a statement made by Kurdish politician Özçelik in the program "What's going on". He had described the militant PKK as a "political movement".

Several Approaches - No Concrete Steps
Tahmaz from the Turkish Peace Parliament thinks that the government is not going to take concrete steps towards a solution of the Kurdish question before the election in 2011. Kurdish politician Türk wants the armed forces of the PKK to withdraw from the region. Retired military judge Kardaş suggests withdrawing the Turkish Armed Forces.

Ahtissari: Cyprus Issue Hinders EU Accession Process
Ahtissari from the Independent Commission on Turkey said that everybody in Diyarbakır wants violence to end. He urged to find a mediator and prolong the ceasefire. Aguirre argued that the right to education and publications in the mother tongue are legitimate demands.

The former president of the Contemporary Lawyers Association in Adana, Rişvanoğlu, is on trial for reading out a press release related to the suspicious death of Metin Alataş, distributor of the Kurdish Azadiya Welat Newspaper. The trial starts on 16 September.

DTK Announced 5 Steps to Resolve Kurdish Question
Democratic Society Congress Co-Chair Türk stated that with the ceasefire announced by the PKK, the military operations should be stopped as well. He listed 5 steps to be taken to resolve the Kurdish problem, a "democratic autonomy is a project of voluntary unity".

145 NGOs from Diyarbakir assessed the PKK's decision for a ceasefire as a "huge opportunity to find a peaceful solution for the Kurdish question". They called for an end of military operations and not to exclude any of the involved sections.

Clashes in South-Eastern Turkey - 1 Soldier and 1 Civilian Dead
Specialist Sergeant Mutlu died in an explosion during an operation in the south-eastern province of Hakkari, one military officer got injured. The General Staff announced that it was a detonative made by the PKK. One civilian died of Turkish artillery fire in northern Iraq.

Peace Mothers Call for a Meeting with The Armed Forces Chief of Staff
The Mothers for Peace initiatated a sit-down strike in Ankara in order to convey the call for peace of Kurdish mothers. The members of the initiative request an appointment by the Armed Forces Chief of Staff offices. The action was supported by labour union confederation chair Evren.

17 members of the "Peace Groups" that came from Iraq to Turkey in 2009 are facing trial for "propaganda for an illegal organization". The defendants dismiss the charges and refer to their freedom of thought. Another 30 trials are filed against each adult of both groups.
