CHP deputy Veli Ağbaba submitted a bill proposal enabling sick inmates to be released without an official admission by Forensics Institute. The aforementioned bill also removes the expression “those who are considered not to pose a public security threat”.

Convict Serap Şimşek suffered a stroke and fell ill with cancer while serving her life sentence. She has been lying at the infirmary with her hand cuffed for 8 months now. Convict Gülay Çetin passed away 1 month before the Forensic Medicine sent the report to release her immediately.

İHD 2011 Prison Report - Summary of Rights Violations
256 sick convicts, 106 of whom are severely ill, are waiting for their release from prison, according to the 2011 report of the Human Rights Foundation. Especially prisoners in eastern and south-eastern regions are continuously exposed to rights violations.

The Human Rights Foundation announced that the finding of human remains in the Mardin Dargeçit mass grave proved right the allegations that have been putting forward for 17 years. The organization demanded the opening of another 253 mass graves.

The annual report on the Marmara Region released by the Human Rights Association revealed, "Torture spilled over from detention centres to the street". Also in 2011 in the region, 81 publications were seized and banned, 71 more than in the previous year.

1,469 Bodies in 114 Mass Graves - More to Come
A research by the Turkish Medical Association revealed that the remains of 1,469 people were found in 114 mass graves so far, the real figure may exceed these numbers by far. The association is concerned about the obscuring of evidence during the excavations.

522 Unsolved Murders in 5 Years
Research of the Human Rights Association in Eastern and South-Eastern Turkey revealed 375 cases of unsolved murders from 2006 till the present. According to data compiled by the Turkish Human Rights Foundation, a total of 522 unsolved murders were committed.
