Social Service expert Karatay said that children can be taken away from their families by the state in case they are not sent to school because of wearing a headscarf. He indicated that the child's mental and intellectual development would be obstructed by a deprivation of education.

The draft law of the Anti-Terror Act concerned with the situation of children on trial will be discussed in the Turkish Parliament this week. Children's rights advocators still find the amendments insufficient and urge the MPs to recognize related international agreements.

"Child friendly" Draft of the Anti-Terror Law
Important changes have been made in the new version of the Anti-Terror Law. Children are tried at juvenile courts and stones do no longer account as weapons. Some anticipated increases of crimes and punishments will be lifted.

Condemning Police Violence against Children - a Crime?!
Açıkalın from the Human Rights Association is on trial again because he condemned an action of a police officer in Hakkari. The police officer beat a 17-year-old child on the head with his rifle butt. Açıalın is charged with "demonstrating against the law". The court will start on 2 November.

School Principle Beats And Injures 12 Students
A school principle beats up 12 students for not cleaning the school garden by hitting their hands with a big pair of compasses. The students are hospitalized and the principle is suspended until the investigation is completed.
