Bozdağ: Nobody Arrested Over Tweets; Ministry of Interior: 1,656 People Arrested
Government Spokesperson Bozdağ has said that “There is not a single soul who was arrested in Turkey for posting tweet”, however, there are probes against tens of thousands of people, and 1,656 people were arrested only during March-August 2016, according to the Ministry of Interior.

Kurdish Politician Alınak Back to Prison
Mahmut Alınak was arrested again together with Mehmet Ayata, Yalçın Sarıtaş and Sebahat Zeynep Arat upon the prosecutor's appeal. They were taken to a prison in Istanbul. Alınak had initially been released pending trial after the KCK operation on 22 November.

The 200th day of journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener in prison was marked by a demonstration of the group "Fellow Journalists of Ahmet and Nedim". They stated that the indictment proved the fact that Şık and Şener were jailed because of their journalistic activities.

Journalist Deniz Kılıç from the Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper was sentenced to more than two years in prison for his statements made on Roj TV. He had already served ten months in prison. Now he was arrested again to serve the remaining sentence.

The appeals against the detentions of journalists Ahmet Şık and Nedim Şener were rejected by court. Both were arrested on 6 March in the scope of the Ergenekon investigation. The decision does not mention a concrete reason. Turkey is facing national and international criticism.

Tora Pekin, lawyer of arrested journalist Ahmet Şık, claims that both the investigation about his client and his arrest lack concrete evidence. Otherwise, the way the file is handled by the prosecution would constitute a violation of the right to defence, Pekin said.
