2018 snap elections

The new elections in Turkey is displaying strong populist rhetoric that is invoked by all major candidates in order to win popular support. These four political leaders’ electoral campaigns rely on populist language, glorifying the role of the people and illustrating their superiority.

Minister of Interior Soylu has told CHP voters to vote for the CHP and added: “The votes you carry to the HDP will be accounted for in this and other world by this innocent nation”.

Konak District Election Board has forbidden the magazine called “Voice of DISK”, entitled "Enough", emphasizing the losses of workers during AKP ruling.

A delegation of 33 people from the PACE are going to come to Turkey to monitor presidential and parliamentary elections. The delegation will announce their report right after the election is over.

PM Yıldırım has said that 30 thousand Syrians who attained citizenship are going to cast vote in June 24 elections. CHP's İnce has held 100 public meetings.

Fadıl Şenyaşar, who has lost his father and two brothers in the armed attack in Suruç in Turkey's southeastern province of Urfa, has been arrested in relation with the death of Mehmet Şah Yıldız, the brother of the AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız.

The Turkish Medical Association has released a statement regarding the armed conflict in Suruç, Urfa. The Association has stated that the attacks also continued inside the Suruç Public Hospital and two of the deaths occurred in the hospital.

While the HDP has stated, “We will not be provoked by such incidents”, the CHP Chair Kılıçdaroğlu has said, “Such incidents should remain in history.” The government officials have emphasized that “It is an attack targeting AKP members.”

The dispute that erupted during the election works of AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Turkey's southeastern province of Urfa has turned into an armed conflict. Four people have been killed and eight people have been wounded.

An attack has been carried out against the election booth of HDP in the district of Gölcük, Kocaeli. Two party members have been injured in the attack.

Applications have been made to the Ministry of Justice and Supreme Election Board for HDP’s imprisoned presidential candidate Demirtaş to be able to attend the public meetings.

President and AKP Chair Erdoğan has said, “In case I continue after June 24, our first task will be end the State of Emergency if god permits”.

İYİ Party İstanbul Provincial Organization has granted “Kım Jong Un press and democracy award” to the state channel TRT.

HDP’s imprisoned presidential candidate Demirtaş’s demand for release has been rejected by the Constitutional Court as well after Ankara 19th and 20th Heavy Penal Courts.

In a letter she wrote in Kandıra Prison, HDP’s imprisoned former co-chair Figen Yüksekdağ has said, “It is the women who will overcome the threshold of oppression”.

HDP’s Diyarbakır MP candidate Dersim Dağ has said, “I lean my back on my people by taking young people and women by my side. That’s why, I’m not scared. We’ve started young, we’ll achieve young”.

HDP’s imprisoned presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş has sent a voice message from prison and said, “We are in very good spirits and good health here. We become happier and all the more exuberant as we get the messages coming from outside.”

President Erdoğan has announced that an operation will be launched into Qandil. CHP’s İnce has filed a claim for compensation against Erdoğan for his statement that “They ask for permission from Pennsylvania”.

According to CHP’s members in the Radio and Television Supreme Council, AKP was covered for 354 hours whereas HDP wasn’t covered at all by eight private TV channels during May. Five channels have placed embargo on opposition parties.

Demirtaş has answered the questions, which were conveyed to him via his lawyers, on social media. In response to bianet’s question about “Kobane protests”, Demirtaş answered, “Political responsibility belongs to the AKP”.
