Women Prisoners Not Allowed to Have Mirrors, Wear Hairclips

Women Prisoners from Kandıra F-type Prison in Kocaeli province have written a letter to bianet complaining about the poor conditions in prison that they were made to live "together with mice, lizards and various insects.

The prisoners added that as a response to their request of cleaning services from the prison administration they were told "Are we going to do cleaning for a prisoner?"

"Countertop, beds, bunks all rusted"

Women prisoners describing their cells said:

"The countertops in the kitchen are impossible to use because of rust.

"We asked for having the beds misshaped and rusted which have stains of blood and piss countless times."

"They don't even give our hairclips, seized our mirrors"

The women added:

"They don't even give us our hairclips or jewelry which ahve a sentimental value for us. They even seized our tweezers".

The women also stated that they had requested cleaning services from the prison administration yet got the response "Are we going to do cleaning for a prisoner?" from the authorities. (AS/DG)
