Turkey summons Germany's ambassador over attack in Stuttgart

Germany's Ambassador to Ankara Jurgen Schulz was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday (July 19), after the official vehicle of Turkey's Consulate General in Stuttgart was set on fire.

The incident took place late Monday, according to reports in Germany's media.

The interior minister of the Baden-Württemberg state, Thomas Strobl, condemned the attack, saying, "I strongly condemn the dangerous arson attack on a car owned by the Turkish Consulate General - directly in front of the Consulate General."

Cem Özdemir, the federal minister of agriculture, also condemned the attack. "I am appalled by the fire in front of the Turkish consulate in my Stuttgart constituency," he wrote on Twitter.

Ambassador Schulz was reminded that the perpetrators of the attack are expected to be caught and brought to justice at the earliest., the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing diplomatic sources.

"Expectation that the damage will be compensated in accordance with diplomatic practices, and protection and security envisaged in international conventions for Turkish representations and interests will be fully provided was also conveyed," said the sources. (VK)
