'Ninety percent of Covid ICU patients in Turkey not fully vaccinated'

About 90 percent of Covid-19 patients in intensive care units are not fully vaccinated, a senior member of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) said, citing information from the field.

As a result of the slowdown in vaccination in late July due to procurement issues, the number of cases increased five-fold and deaths tripled within a month, Prof. Rıza Hakan said during an online meeting yesterday (August 18).

According to the Health Ministry data, 72.54 percent of the country's adult population has received at least one vaccine dose with more than half of it fully vaccinated.

Before the coronavirus reopening at the start of July, the number of daily cases was about 1,200 on average whereas it has been about 20,000 recently.

In late July, Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca stated that 87 percent of all cases and 95 percent of the hospitalized patients were not fully vaccinated. (KÖ/VK)
