Minister of Commerce: We Counter US with 553-Million-Dollar Surtax

The Minister of Commerce Ruhsar Pekcan has made a statement regarding the additional customs duties imposed on the US.

Pekcan has said, "We have doubled the tax rates of 22 items imported from the US. We have countered the sanctions with 553-million-dollar surtax."

She has stated, "We will never refrain from protecting the rights of the firms in Turkey in the face of unjust actions of the US, we will give the necessary response. The decision of the US to impose additional tariffs on iron and steel will negatively affect the exporters from the US as well."

Pekcan has also added, "The US is an important trade partner of ours, but it is not our only partner. We have other associates and alternative markets."

Presidential decree on 100 percent surtax on some products imported from the US was published on the Official Gazette today (August 15).
