The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has announced that a magnitude 5.3 earthquake happened off the coast of Alanya district in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Antalya. The quake reportedly shook the region at 6.21 in the morning today (January 4).
According to the AFAD statement, the depth of the earthquake was 39.52 kilometers. The Presidency has stated that no unfortunate incidents have been reported. Expressing its get-well-soon wishes to Antalya, the AFAD has said, "As of now, we have been informed that no negative report has been made following the 5.3-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Alanya."
Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute has also announced the magnitude of the earthquake as 5.3 while it has measured the magnitude of the quake as 18.1 kilometers.
Sharing messages on social media under the hashtag #deprem (earthquake), several people have indicated that the earthquake, which happened at sea some 59 kilometers southwest of Okurcalar village in Alanya, was also felt in the districts of Alanya, Manavgat and Gazipaşa. (TP/SD)
