‘If Turkey had elections today, AKP would get less than 30 percent of votes’

The MetroPoll Research company has shared the results of its "Turkey's Pulse" (Türkiye'nin Nabzı) survey for October 2020.

As part of the survey, the participants were asked, "If there were Parliamentary elections this Sunday, for which party would you vote?"

According to the results, if Turkey had a general election this weekend, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) would get 28.5 percent of the votes. Only 17.2 percent of the participants said that they would cast their votes for the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).

Rate of swing voters on the increase

The survey results have shown that the vote of the ruling party is less than 30 percent in a first. However, it has been underlined that "the AKP is not being replaced by another political movement," noting that "especially the economic hardships have caused a change in Turkey's politics and the rate of swing voters has increased more than ever before.

The MetroPoll survey has also indicated that if Turkey had elections this Sunday, the İYİ Party would get 8.6 percent of the votes, the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) would get 8.5 percent and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), a close ally of the ruling AKP, would get 7.9 percent.

Moreover, the survey results have also shown that the DEVA Party, which was founded by Ali Babacan, a former Deputy Prime Minister from the AKP, would get 1.5 percent while the Future Party of Ahmet Davutoğlu, a former PM from the AKP, would receive 0.9 percent of the votes.
