Hundred students expelled from dormitory without notice in Eskişehir

More than 100 students have been expelled from a state dormitory in Eskişehir, central Turkey, for failing to pay their fees, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Utku Çakırözer has said.

Students called him to inform him about the dismissals, Çakırözer said yesterday (October 13).

"We checked in to the dormitories on October 3. When we asked how the payments would be made, they said we could pay until the last day of the month," said the students quoted by Çakırözer.

"This morning, we learned we had been expelled from the dormitory for not making a payment for September, when we didn't stay in the dormitory. It was with no notice in advance.

"When we went to the dining hall for breakfast, the fingerprint system didn't work. Employees there told us that we had been expelled from the dormitory."

Bringing the issue to the parliamentary agenda, MP Çakırözer called on Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoğlu to find a solution to the problem.

Thousands of students who stay in state dormitories are in the same situation as they are asked to pay fees for September, Çakırözer noted.

"After waiting for hours, they met with the governor of Eskişehir today. However, they haven't been find a remedy for their troubles," he said. (KÖ/VK)
