Feminist activists acquitted in 'Night March' case

The 8th hearing of the trial in which 17 women who participated in the 19th Feminist Night March were accused of "insulting the President" and "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911" took place at the 10th Criminal Court of First Instance of Istanbul. The 17 women on trial, along with their lawyers, were present at the hearing.

According to a report by MA, the hearing began with identity verification, and during the session, the statements of the defendants and their lawyers were heard regarding the prosecution's request for acquittal for each of the 17 women, citing the reason of "lack of concrete evidence," as presented in the 6th hearing.

In their statements, it was emphasized that chanting slogans could not be considered a "crime," and they argued that their trial for participating in the Feminist Night March, which has been taking place for 19 years, was unjust.

Following these statements, the court panel announced its decision, ruling for the acquittal of the 17 women on the grounds of "the absence of the legal elements of the crime." (EMK/VK)
