Explosion While Riot Police Service Vehicle Passing in Adana: 5 People Wounded

An explosion took place in the district of central Yüreğir in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Adana while a riot police service vehicle was passing nearby early in the morning today (September 25).

Announcing that five people, including one police officer, have been wounded in the explosion, Governor of Adana Mahmut Demirtaş has said, "The wounded are in good medical condition. Citizens referred to hospitals as a precaution. Our police do not have any problems, either".

It has been reported that a bomb attack was launched in the Neighborhood of Selahattin Eyyubi at around 7.20 a.m. while the service vehicle with riot police officers on board was passing nearby. The armoured service vehicle and the vehicles in the vicinity have been damaged in the attack.

First statement came from the governor

Making the first statement about the explosion, Governor Mahmut Demirtaş has indicated that an attack was launched with either an improvised explosive device or a different bomb while the police service was passing.

Announcing that some people have been wounded in the incident, the Governor has stated that according to initial reports, no one has been seriously wounded in the explosion.

Statement by Adana Metropolitan Mayor

Speaking at the Fox TV morning news, Metropolitan Mayor of Adana Zeydan Karalar has said, "A bomb attack was launched against the police service vehicle. We are also going there now. We do not have so much information. We have not received any news of martyrs for now. We started the day with sad news. We are about to reach the scene of incident. The Adana Security is very sensible about terrorism, but infiltrations happen sometimes." (TP/SD)
