Council of Higher Education’s Commitments on Gender Equality

Council of Higher Education’s (YÖK) Higher Education Institutions Approach on Gender Equality Document has been issued.
YÖK President Yekta Saraç has introduced the document on the the breakfast housed byYÖK’s Presidency to bring women university chancellors together on March 8 International Women’s Day.
It has been committed in the document that YÖK and all of its components would act in sensitivity with regards to gender equality and justice.
Commitment in 7 clauses
The activities the Council has committed to be engaged in have been listed as follows:
1. Activities to raise awareness regarding gender equality and justice;
2. Ensuring that “Gender Equality” lecture is introduced with the same name or an appropriate equivalence as a compulsory or optional course on the schedule by competent authorities.
3. Meeting requirements such as briefing against sexual abuse and attacks, providing accessible application points and other requirements such as lighting and transportation in order to ensure a secure living in premises
4. Promoting participation of managers, academic and administrative members as well as students on training programs regarding gender equality
5. Engagements to monitor gender inequality
6. Taking actions to strengthen functionality and working conditions of Women’s Issues Research and Application Centers at universities and Health Culture and Sports Departments which are to act in cooperation in order to realize these objectives
7. Ensure establishing such centers in universities which have none.
