Chronology in Oda TV Trial as 14 Defendants Facing 262.5 Years Acquitted

The first hearing of the Oda TV trial was held on November 22, 2011 after the bill of indictment was drafted on August 26, 2011. Until the acquittal of all the suspects of the trial, 10 people served between 1 year - 2 years and 10 months in prison, and a person (Kaşif Kozinoğlu) has lost his life in prison.

The 14 suspects including Kaşif Kozinoğlu were facing between 111.5 and 262.5 years in prison, they served 14 years and 7 months in total. All defendants of Oda TV trial have been acquitted

Defendants standing trial

Soner Yalçın, Barış Pehlivan, Barış Terkoğlu, Ayhan Bozkurt, Ahmet Şık, Nedim Şener, Müyesser Yıldız, Doğan Yurdakul, Coşkun Musluk, Sait Çakır, Yalçın Küçük, İklim Bayraktar, Hanefi Avcı, and official in the National Intelligence Organization (MİT) Kaşif Kozinoğlu (died on November 13 2011 in prison) have stood trial in Oda TV case.

Detention and arrests

On February 14, 2011 journalists Soner Yalçın, Barış Pehlivan, Barış Terkoğlu and Ayhan Bozkurt's houses were raided on order of prosecutor Zekeriya Öz and they were taken into custody. Oda TV news center was searched on the same day.

After four days in detention, on February 18, 2011 Yalçın, Pehlivan and Terkoğlu were arrested by the now closed İstanbul 12th High Criminal Court and Bozkurt was released.

On March 3, 2011 journalists Müyesser Yıldız, Doğan Yurdakul, Mümtaz İdil, Coşkun Musluk, Sait Çakır, Nedim Şener, Ahmet Şık, Yalçın Küçük and İklim Bayraktar' appartments were raided by police and they were taken into custody.

Yıldız, Yurdakul, Musluk, Küçük, Çakır, Şener and Şık were arrested by the now closed İstanbul 10th High Criminal Court's Judgeship on Duty on March 6, 2011.

MİT official Kaşif Kozinoğlu was arrested by the now closed İstanbul 14th High Criminal Court on March 10, 2011 after coming back from Afghanistan.

Former Security Director Hanefi Avcı arrested as a part of the investigation into the "Revolutionary Headquarters" (Devrimci Karargah, a Marxist-Leninist Organization) was arrested on March 14, 2011 as a part of the Oda TV trial as well.

Charges and prison sentences

The offenses listed in the 134 paged bill of indictment drafted on August 26, 2011 in which journalist Nazlı Ilıcak was a plaintiff, are as follows:

* Yalçın Küçük facing between 22 and 41.5 years in prison on charge of "establishing an armed organization, inciting people to hatred and hostility, providing information regarding state security, providing prohibited data, attempting to influence fair trial and violating the right of privacy".

* Soner Yalçın facing between 14 and 36.5 years in prison on charge of "being a member of an armed organization, inciting people to hatred and hostility in order to create an environment of chaos, providing confidential data supposed to remain undisclosed for domestic and foreign political benefits, attempting to influence fair trial, violating the right of privacy and unlawfully recording personal information".

* Ahmet Şık facing between 7.5 and 15 years in prison on charge of "aiding the armed Ergenekon armed terrorist organization"

* Nedim Şener facing between 7,5 and 15 years in prison on charge of "aiding the armed Ergenekon armed terrorist organization".

* Hanefi Avcı facing between 7,5 and 15 years in prison on charge of "aiding the armed Ergenekon armed terrorist organization".

* Barış Pehlivan facing between 10 and 23 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization,inciting people to hatred and hostility, attempting to influence fair trial and violating the right of privacy and unlawfully recording personal information".

* Barış Terkoğlu facing between 8.5 and 18 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization, inciting people to hatred and hostility".

* Doğan Yurdakul facing between 9 and 21 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization, inciting people to hatred and hostility and attempting to influence fair trial".

* Müyesser Uğur facing between 7,5 and 15 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization".

* Coşkun Musluk facing between 8 and 18 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization and attempting to influence fair trial".

* Muhammet Sait Çakır facing between 9 and 21 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization, inciting people to hatred and hostility and attempting to influence fair trial".

* İklim Ayfer Kaleli facing between 8 and 20 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization, attempting to influence fair trial and violating the right of privacy and unlawfully recording personal information".

* Ahmet Mümtaz İdil facing between 8 and 18 years in prison on charge of "being a member of the Ergenekon armed terrorist organization and attempting to influence fair trial".

* Kaşif Kozinoğlu facing between 11.5 and 26 years in prison on charge of "being a member of an armed organization, providing confidential data supposed to remain undisclosed for domestic and foreign political benefits",

Barış Pehlivan: 18 February 2011 – 14 September 2012 (1 year and 7 months)

Müyesser Yıldız: 6 March 2011 – 18 June 2012 (1 year and 3 months)
