Attacker Who Threw Molotov Cocktail at Synagogue in İzmir Caught

An unidentified person threw a molotov cocktail at Beth Israel Synagogue in Konak, İzmir at the night of March 28. The attacker has been caught.

As reported by Şalom newspaper, targeting Beth Israel Synagogue, an unidentified attacker threw a molotov cocktail, which did not hit the synagogue and fell on the sidewalk. While the cocktail did not harm the synagogue, an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Falling on the sidewalk, the molotov cocktail did not harm the synagogue.

Being taken to the penal judgeship of peace on duty, the attacker has been arrested for "damaging places of worship." Deposing regarding the incident, the attacker has stated that he did the act in question to protest Israel.

Releasing a statement, the Turkish-Jewish Community has stated,

"With quick and sensitive work of the İzmir Security Directorate, the attacker has been caught and brought to justice. We condemn this heinous attack threatening our lives, peace and unity.

"We are extending our thanks to our İzmir Security Directorate and everyone concerned for their sensitivity and for having concluded the incident by catching the attacker in the shortest time possible."

Mustafa Yeneroğlu, the İstanbul MP of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has also condemned the attack on social media. Yeneroğlu said, "There is no difference between attacks targeting synagogues, churches and mosques; they all target social peace with their hate." (AÖ/SD)
