Special units for children that were exposed to sexual harassment, rape and domestic violence have been established in state hospitals. TİHV chairwomen Fincancı and ATUD Chairman Biçer appreciate the latest implementation but warned that there is much more to be done.

The Ankara 5th High Criminal Court handed a life sentence to defendant Murat Olgun G. for deliberate murder aiming to conceal a crime. The defendant received another twelve years imprisonment for aggravated looting. The court rejected the defence's request of mitigation for "unjust provocation".

The "Protection and Promotion of Human Rights Joint Program for Women and Girls" was implemented in six provinces all over Turkey and came to an end now after four years of work. The program targeted gender equality a local issue and aimed at local solutions.

The Constitutional Court cancelled the law that orders the prosecution of soldiers for organized crime at special authority high criminal courts. This decision will affect pending trials and investigations. Retired judge Kardaş: "This is a step backwards that strengthens militarism".

According to the Media Monitoring Report issued by the BİA Media Monitoring Desk regarding July, August and September 2009, 190 people are prosecuted, 74 of them journalists, in 80 cases concerned with freedom of expression.

Lawyer Belen claimed that several sources give proof of murder suspect Samast meeting with three people prior to the murder of Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink. Journalist Çalışlar argued: "If the government knew that Damast came to Istanbul, they knew about the murder as well".

Lawyer Kaplan from recently closed DTP applied to the ECHR and requested to deal with the case with priority. The application includes three files concerned with the party and both co-chairs respectively. The 37 party members subject to a political ban will apply separately.

Worker Yaşar from the Tek Gıda-İş union: "The workers expect the confederations to put a general strike on the agenda. There is no area left that was not attacked by the government. The hunger strike was our last resort. If I died today, my children would benefit from a higher pension".

MP Halis from Tunceli handed in a proposal for recognizing Alevi 'cem' houses as places of worship. He suggests the amendment of three laws. A similar proposal made by crossbench MP Genç from Tunceli in 2008 was not considered by the parliament.
